A Retreat Setting Like No Other
New Harmony is much more than a charming historic town—it is a place shaped by visionary ideas, artistic expression, learning, and community. Set along the Wabash River, this peaceful and highly walkable village offers a distinctive combination of history, architecture, gardens, sculpture, nature, and quiet beauty.
For more than two centuries, New Harmony has attracted educators, scientists, artists, reformers, and spiritual seekers interested in creating a more thoughtful and harmonious way of life. That legacy can still be felt throughout the town, making it an especially fitting setting for harpists to gather, learn, reflect, and renew their creative lives.
As part of the retreat, participants will enjoy a guided tram tour of New Harmony. The tour is included in the retreat tuition and will offer an engaging introduction to the town’s history, architecture, significant sites, and cultural heritage.
The retreat will also include a contemplative labyrinth walk accompanied by the gentle sound of Martha’s small harp. This shared experience will offer participants a quiet opportunity to slow down, reflect, and become more fully present within the peaceful surroundings of New Harmony.
Beyond these planned activities, participants will have time to explore the town at their own pace. You may wish to visit the Roofless Church and Jane Blaffer Owen Sanctuary, browse local galleries, antique stores, and shops, explore historic sites, enjoy a meal with fellow harpists, or simply rest in one of the town’s gardens or quiet spaces.
New Harmony’s unusual blend of history, creativity, beauty, and contemplation makes it an ideal home for the New Harmony Harp Haven—a place to step away from everyday responsibilities, deepen your relationship with the harp, connect with other musicians, and return home musically and personally renewed.
